The Perfect Day at the Derby
Let’s face certain facts. The Derby is a lot of fun, but it is horrible to drive to. There isn’t enough parking, and what little parking there is is really expensive.
A limo or party bus is the way to go. It makes things, simple, safe, and fun.

Ky Derby Questions
What is the Kentucky Derby and
how does it work?
What is the Ky Derby?
The Kentucky Derby is “America’s greatest race”. It is the first Saturday of May every year, and it occurs at Churchill Downs Race Track in Louisville KY. It takes about an hour and a half to get there (but allow double or triple that due to traffic problems on race days)
Most people purchase 10 hours or more for race day rentals.
How much are tickets?
We do not sell tickets for the derby. Go to their website to obtain them.
What time of day should we start?
Early!
While the race itself is at 7:00 pm (or so), there is a day full of other activities.
Most of our customers leave Cincinnati at 9:30am at the latest, which means you want us at the pickup location at 9:00am to give you time to load up all your stuff.
Fair warning – if you do not leave Cincinnati by 9:30 am, we will probably not be able to find a parking spot less than a mile from Churchill Downs (if we can find one at all). We can drop you off at the gate when we arrive, but we typically will not be able to come back to the gate to get you after the race (they close the streets down as the day goes on), so you’ll end up walking a long distance. Leave Cincinnati early!!
Is this a good idea for my clients and customers?
Absolutely.
Thnk about it. A captive audiance for an entire day of fun. We’ve had large corporations bring their clients every year. It’s a great way to build client (and employee) loyalty!
What is the Ky Derby Oaks day?
The Ky Oaks is a race for 3 yr old fillies (female horses), and is always the day before the derby.
It’s a great way to enjoy most of the Ky Derby’s fun at a fraction of the cost. We have many customers that go year after year for both days. It’s fun!
Should I buy a parking pass?
That’s a tough one. They keep changing their policy about stretch vehicles – sometimes you need one pass, sometimes they will make you buy 3 passes. They usually run out of parking passes way before the date of the event. We’ve also had problems with customers being turned away even though they bought a parking pass, so be warned.
If you leave early enough (9:30am or so) from Cincinnati, we can usually find places to park for $100 or less (sadly, that is cheap for this event) in the neighborhoods surrounding Churchill downs. In that case, no parking pass is needed (but you will pay the parking costs wherever we end up…). We’ve done this for 16+ years, so we’ll help find a good spot if we can!
What should we wear?
Many people dress up.
Dresses and (really) big hats for the ladies, jackets and bow ties in pastel colors for the men.
You’ll notice the vast majority of people there are dressed this way – it’s part of the fun!
Obviously you can also wear jeans or what not. The choice is yours.
Can we eat and drink in the limo or party bus?
Yes.
In fact, we encourage it. While Churchill Downs has drinks and food, it’s expensive.
Motortoys is BYOB, so you can have a Mint Julip in the limo or party bus with your own fixins for probably a tenth of the cost inside the facility.
